Need New Roofing Installed On Your Construction Projects?
We specialize in roof installations for new construction throughout Seattle.

Asphalt Shingle Roofing is probably one of the most common types of roofing material you’ll find throughout the Pacific Northwest.  It’s a great choice for many reasons including the fact that it’s widely available, it’s more affordable than other types of roofing (especially if you plan to sell the home) and there are so many different style and color choices that it can be overwhelming.

WA Construction Group LLC is a full service roofing contractor specializing in the installation of Asphalt Shingle Roofing systems.  From installing a new roof on a single family home to a small residential development such as an apartment or townhome our team can do a fantastic job for you.

What You Need To Know About Asphalt Shingles:

Your roof is constantly exposed to the harsh abuse of mother nature.  Sunlight, Wind, Water and Ice ALL work to slowly breakdown your roofing material over time.    If you’ve ever cleaned your gutters and noticed a large amount of what appears to be sand in your gutters, these are actually roofing granules and this is evidence that your roofing material is actually breaking down.

As these little granules slowly start to separate themselves from the roofing material they leave the leftover material exposed to the elements which decreases the performance and lifespan of your roof considerably, over time this process continually erodes away at your roof until shingles start to come off and your roof begins to leak.  This process can take many years, or only a few months in the case of a severe storm or a very poorly installed roof.

While Asphalt Shingles were designed to be an extremely durable roofing material that can withstand the rigors of mother nature for many, many years, they do not last forever.  Thankfully though, Asphalt Shingles have come a long way and now roofing systems do last much longer and deliver much more value to the homeowner.

Types Of Asphalt Shingles We Install in Fond Du Lac WI

3 Tab ShinglesStandard 3 Tab Shingles
– If you need a new roof but the bank account doesn’t warrant something decorative (you just need to keep the water out) then a standard 3 tab shingle asphalt shingle is probably the best choice for you.  The material is available right now, it’s more affordable than any other type of asphalt shingle and if budget is a concern, this is probably your best option.  We sell and install 3 tab shingles from the leading manufactuters and our installations qualify for the full manufacturers warranty.

(laminated shingles)- If you’d like to stay with the affordability of an asphalt shingle but don’t like the dull boring look that most asphalt shingles provide then an architectural or textured shingle or dimensional shingle is probably what you’re looking for.  These shingles have different patterns and dimensional designs that can really make your roof stand out.  We install architectural asphalt shingle roofing materials from a variety of manufacturers and our installations qualify for the full manufacturers warranty.

What is a an Architectural or Laminated Asphalt Shingle?

Laminated shingles are made up from essentially the same composition as a standard 3 tab asphalt shingle but they are built to a much heavier standard.  3 tab shingles were the shingle of choice throughout the 80’s and 90’s, measuring in at 1 foot tall by 3 feet wide there are slots cut at one end to create the three tabs which results in what we know as the 3 tab shingle.

A laminated shingle is made of an extra layer (or more) of material on the lower portion of the shingle so that when it’s overlapped and installed it gives a much deeper look to the shingle hence the term “dimensional shingle” because they don’t look flat.

In terms of longevity and durability a laminated asphalt shingle will last longer than a standard 3 tab shingle because there is more material (asphalt, roofing granules and fiberglass) per square foot of shingle.  This allows them to resist heat, hail impact, water damage and UV damage better than their 3 tab counterparts.

Asphalt Shingle Ratings – The ratings on Asphalt Shingles were formulated by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). Shingles with a Class 4 rating have more adhesive strips under the tabs which help them resist strong winds. Class 4 shingles also take six nails as opposed to four when fastening the material.
The Underwriters Laboratory (UL) test determines durability from wind and hail impacts. A Shingle that can withstand 60 mile per hour winds for two straight hours will gain the UL certification.

It’s important that the roofing contractor you choose to install your Asphalt Shingle roof educates you on the products that are available and what will work best for your specific home. You want to be sold the right product for your roof! Not the most profitable product for the roofer.

Roof Flashings and Proper Roof Venting

The flashings on your new roof will need to completed and we make sure these are done correctly.  Poorly installed flashing around chimneys, dormers, skylights and other objects on your roof is responsible for many leaky roofs and upset homeowners so we take the additional time and care to build and install your flashing so that water intrusion won’t become an issue.  While we’re on your roof and removing the old material down to the decking we also take the time to make sure your roof ventilation is adequate and if needed we can install new roof vents to improve the circulation of air through your attic.  This can help reduce the occurrence of ice dams and an attic that can breathe will help prevent other moisture problems as well.
